Well I left early Saturday morning(4:30 a.m.) to get up to Jasper on time. When I got there I met my friend David Carter we had a quick hand shake and chat and loaded my things into his pick up then we were off to the woods. In the dark I found a tree suitable for my climber over looking one of the food plots that David had been working on over the summer. Before we had left Davids house he had told me about a nice eight point he had been seeing on the property, so my anticipation of the mornings hunt was very high. As the sun was coming up I could see the hard work that David and his wife had both put into the food plots, the deer tracks in the food plots showed they had done well over the summer. The mornings hunt was upon me as the turkeys and squirrels started to move. The anticipation of a sighting of the eight point David spoke of earlier was about to kill me, looking hard between the branches of the trees and glassing down through the cypress head just waiting to see some bone on a deers head. It never came to pass the morning ended up with the turkey's and squirrel's keeping me entertained for the morning, none the less it was one of the prettiest morning's I had seen in a while, watching the critters of the Florida swamps chasing each other and doing what they do every day as they go through there lives. We left and had a great lunch at the H&F Restaurant in down town Jasper. After a couple hours of some great comradery and watching the Gators lose by one point we headed back out to the stands. The evenings hunt would be close to the mornings as once again the turkeys and squirrels kept me entertained. It is always a down moment to leave one of your hunting buddies to head back home but that is all that was left for us until next time. The eight point was free to roam the woods for a little while longer as David will be perusing him on his own until I can make it back.
I hope you enjoy the rantings of a crazed hunter
Mike
